Day 30 – Abide in Me

“If My words abide in you…”
 John 15: 7

Getting into God’s Word puts His Word in us. This is one of the best ways to press into God’s presence. To abide is to “stay”, which is an ongoing, lifelong experience. To abide requires more than a casual reading of the Bible.  Abiding, digging deeply into God’s Word will radically change our thinking, which impacts our lifestyle, and the way we love.

Meditating and memorizing the promises pulls God’s messages of love and assurance into our minds, into our hearts and becomes part of us.  And words that are repeated throughout Scripture confirm how essential they are for our understanding, for increasing our trust and faith.

Writing out favorite texts of Scripture is a wonderful way to internalize the promises. The Psalmist, David, records over and over how beautiful it is to meditate upon God’s precepts and delight in His law.  Batterson suggests a good way to personalize God’s promises:  “Wherever you read the pronoun ‘you’, insert your name.” It can help us take hold to His Word literally, and remind us that our lives are a unique translation of Scripture. And people who come in contact with us might want to take a look into the Book that inspires what they are reading in our lives.
