“And the remnant shall yet again take root downward, and bear fruit
upward.” 2 Kings 19:30 KJV
Every generation needs a reformation. And at critical points in history
God raises up a remnant to reestablish His statutes and sovereignty. Only a
faithful few are generally involved in beginning these spiritual revivals, where
idols are abolished and God’s standards are raised.
It’s not about a new discovery that sets it off; it’s about a
rediscovery of the ancient, plain and simple truth. Pastor Batterson and his
congregation at National Community Church in Washington, DC, circled one
promise for 40 days: “If My people, who are called by My name, will humble
themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I
will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.”
2 Chronicles 7:14
The leader of our fellowship at Columbia Christian Center, Pastor
Wimbish, called for the congregants to join him each morning at 7:14, inspired
by the promise in 2 Chronicles, and pray during the 40 day prayer challenge earlier
this year. As a body of believers, meeting in a rented edifice, there were
specific requests we’ve been bringing to the Lord for His will to be shown
concerning our location for the most effective ministry in the community. We’ve
been seeking His desire, and not our own. The church is still praying, past the 40 day
challenge, many have started the 40 day challenge over again. God is delivering
on His promise, and we will share that testimony in another post.
God always has a remnant. In every generation, there are people who
covenant to seek God with all their hearts and uphold His standards. 1 Kings 19:18 and Romans 11:4 confirm this
truth. If we get in the posture of prayer, humbled and repentant before the
Lord, He will extend His mighty right hand on our behalf. Let us seek the Lord
and allow Him to “reserve” our place among His remnant.
