Word To My Sistas

From Boaz Ministries

Ladies, let’s talk about our girlfriends – again. In my post of August 14th, I strongly discouraged bashing our men, sharing our negative feelings, and talking personal business with the sista-friends. This is a huge pet peeve of mine because of the high disregard for the unsuspecting spouse or significant other that this type of blabbering displays. Women who complain about their men to others (male or female) are tearing down their relationships with their own tongues – allowing the enemy to have control (not to mention creating a convenient opening for the predatory clean-up woman or man). Dangerous business.

However, it is important to develop healthy friendships with like-minded women friends. Sisters who don’t deal in drama, don’t carry gossip; women of God who are real, loving, down for us, and who will hold us accountable before the Lord – are necessary. A sister in Christ, especially one who has life experiences in common with us (i.e. married or in a committed relationship ), will be there, with understanding and wisdom, to lift us up in prayer on an unspoken matter, and respect our privacy. A true sister is also one in whom we may place our confidence regarding a personal concern – something between women that is never repeated outside the “safe zone”. There is such a thing as “the sisterhood”; and it can be a powerful and positive force when we come together in the unity of Faith.

The men in our lives can usually tell if our friends are messy. And if they warn us, we need to pay attention – men are good at detecting shady females. But a man never needs to fear when Godly womenfolk gather. We want to walk upright and be good examples to our daughters and other young ladies, showing the generations following how to navigate through this life by the power of God’s love and Spirit. Our husbands will support and respect the strength of the bond of feminine friendship because of the blessings they themselves receive through our enriching interactions with our sistas.

Ladies, let's choose our friends wisely and love one another, fiercely!
